PICOTO’s history started in 1950 in Portugal, when the patriarch of the family, Manuel Cardoso, started his olive oil production at Quinta do PICOTO. Ever since the family has been looking after traditional olive groves and producing the best quality olive oil.
In 2013, Rui, aiming to continue his grandfather’s legacy, decided to start a company, PICOTO, aiming at the export market. Originally a civil engineer, Rui decided to continue studying all he could that was related to olive trees and olive oil production. With the same principles of honesty, quality and partnering with other local smaller producers, he expects to reach the world with Portugal´s best olive oils.
The company is focused on centuries-old olive trees existing in traditional olive groves. These trees produce the best quality olives, resulting in the finest olive oil.
Traditional family know-how associated with the best up to date technology enables PICOTO to produce excellent olive oils that satisfy the most demanding connoisseurs.
PICOTO aims at maintaining and developing the Portuguese Olive Heritage, the traditional olive groves. This heritage has stated Olive Oil as the king of the Mediterranean diet, established by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
At PICOTO we care about the environment and its sustainability. We aim at creating the smallest carbon footprint as possible. All the activity, materials and equipment used were selected to be environmentally friendly.
